the view of one of my mates who is the editor of one of the big mags is, that most mags are not aimed at people who have been riding for a long time.... they believe that the majority of the people that buy are either starting out or are interested in the general global snow scene. their research would seem to be right in the general reflection on here

If anyone is looking for their own place or to share a place with someone a friend of mine has couple of condos available for the season.

There is a 1 bedroom in Gondola Village (minutes away from Creekside lift) and a 2 bedroom suite in the Bayshores just outside of Creekisde.

If you need any info give me a shout.

nope and i'm glad I didn't. I was pretty much old enough to be EVERY other competitors dad and the benchmark for making the finals was 7's as a minimum Me and my dodgy 3's wouldn't have got me anywhere...

It was, as said above, a good night.

Switch is one of these things that I've done to rest my legs on a traverse, or because the board was facing that way and I wasn't going far enough, or couldn't lose the height to bother turning.

But I thought I would give it a proper go, and it went well.

We had a laugh anyway, and ended up in Govan at a drive through MacDonalds, at midnight.

It should be possible. unlikely that it will be one of our guys as they will be on the hill, so it will be another company.... but if you do the night in krakow they can come to get you guys the next day. but extra day riding is always better!

On boots I would say you cannot presume a make or model will suit without trying them on first, preferably for at least a few miunutes done up properly. I ended up with Burtons as they were the perfect fit for me - if you'd asked me beforehand Burtons would have been the last thing I'd have bought.

Rome bindings are nice and stiff but I understand the new season models are to feature 'live flexing' baseplates, designed to match with reverse camber boards, it's the next wave of tech and so may seem softer flexing than you're wanting. Who know's again trying stuff out first may be the wise option.

I've found that young kids don't have the energy or attention span for a long day of lessons - so the once a week lessons are just fine, but the cost does then stack up gradually over time, so unless cash isn't a problem, the dry ski slope will save you a packet

It doesn't sound like you understand what ski patrol actually do all day. Sure I'd take someone's pass for blatantly wreckless behavious, but in 5 seasons of patrolling I haven't done it yet. Ski patrol would simply not have the capacity to enforce such a helmet law. On any given day you might have one patroller on the hill per 500 people or even more sometimes. To expect patrol to chase people down and take their passes for not doing their chin strap up is laughable.

hi Matt,

think long and hard about taking your dog... i have collie crosses too and left mine at home with my dad.. i dont think it would be kind leaving them for hours at a time while your snowboarding/ working/ on a trip somewhere. and the long journey there and back, and passports etc.
My one piece of advice which i learnt from my season last year is to take loads of good hand cream, moisturizer, sudacrem and earplugs Living and sleeping in cold conditions for months at a time makes your skin dry out and your fingers crack up! Erugh!

Looks like planning has been approved for a new chair lift from the car park to the Cairnwell Cafe. Getting there would involve a short poma, or the Tiger one man chair, or, most commonly, a steep walk to avoid the massive queue of beginners on the poma, so this should be welcome.

well exactly, where does it stop? I put snow planet in auckland on my list there and that's a snow dome. It's the only one in NZ so pretty easy to include them here but there are dozens of year-round slopes in the UK. Maybe it should be limited to traditional lift accessed winter snow resorts. then again in the US and canada they have ski areas which are no bigger than UK dry slopes but happen to get real snow in winter. you'd never go there unless you lived in the town. tough one to call!

Yes it is an advantage not having to retrieve your belongings from some unseen point up the hill, plus it won't be all wet from having been in the snow and then the snow melting from the warmth of your head... And snow in the goggles is really bloody annoying

If you have a look at Splodge's post about the resorts in New Zealand, that's exactly what I'm after.

I clear hierarchy of resorts under areas. That way, when you zoom out, I can show something meaningful on the map, only getting the actual resorts when you zoom in enough to see them.
