Photocopier security risk

Postby Jack Koff » Fri Jul 30, 2010 6:19 am

I'm guessing there's copies of my passport and drivers licence stored on hard drives up and down the country as I sometimes need extra id the get on some sites. But after watchng this video, then I suspect there's all manner of other personal details out there too.

Hardly worth worrying about the odd lost flash drive here and there then when crooks can just buy used photocopiers to get personal info.

How big are the memories on these things then? To filter through the tens of thousands of pages that have gone through a copier to find one passport image seems a hell of a lot of hassle for not much gain

Spooky, I was offering some advice about a project for a digital forensics student to persue a few weeks back, and it was this very subject!
At this point we decided to call it a day, and move onto something safer... like the over the blind crest third gear one leg off stand-up wheelie competition.

Hmm, nice to know, all those bloody CRB checks I have to do.

 Can't do anything about it. If someone wants to use my identity, they're going to... Just hope they really get into my psyche & get all my neuroses & worries too ;)

It's a HDD in them. Newer ones are encrypted after they realised it was a security risk, it's the older ones you have to worry about ;)

Unless you buy a second hand one from a post office/bank/clinic/school/police force/jobcentre/ etc. etc. etc.

In the video they bought 4 random copiers and all had lots of sensitive information on them.

Even back in the '80s we had to use a seperate copier for secret and top secret copying due to the machines having a "memory" in them. ;)

Must be a lot of bare arse on these copier hd's ;)

I'd probably take a machine apart and see if I could copy the files if I worked in an office full of hotties
